Understanding on-device AI with Snapdragon

Snapdragon powered laptops bring AI directly to the device, enabling faster and more efficient user experiences without relying on the cloud. Central to this is the Neural Processing Unit, or NPU: a dedicated processor designed specifically for AI workloads. Instead of running AI tasks on the CPU or GPU, the NPU handles processes such as background noise reduction, image enhancement and real time language translation more efficiently.

This also enables tools such as Copilot and Gemini to run AI features locally on the device, enhancing responsiveness while reducing reliance on cloud processing.
