Global licensing for Microsoft 365

Changes to Office/Microsoft 365 and Teams
Microsoft is introducing a new lineup of commercial Microsoft 365 and Office 365 suites that do not include Teams in regions outside the EEA and Switzerland, and a new standalone Teams offering for Enterprise customers in those regions.

Last year Microsoft updated the way Microsoft 365, and Teams were licensed in the European Economic (EEA) and Switzerland. Now Microsoft announce their plan to extend that approach worldwide.

Globally consistent licensing helps ensure clarity for customers and streamline decision making and negotiations. To that end, Microsoft is now updating the way Microsoft 365, Office 365, and Teams are licensed outside of Europe in keeping with the recent changes in the EEA. Microsoft are introducing a new lineup of commercial Microsoft 365 and Office 365 suites that do not include Teams in regions outside the EEA and Switzerland, and a new standalone Teams offering for Enterprise customers in those regions.

As in the EEA and Switzerland, customers with existing subscriptions that include Microsoft Teams will be able to continue using plans they have already chosen. Additional details follow below.

Some key points
  • New Licensing Approach: Microsoft is extending the licensing changes implemented in the EEA and Switzerland to regions outside those areas. This is to ensure consistency and clarity for customers globally.
  • New Lineup: Microsoft is introducing a new lineup of commercial Microsoft 365 and Office 365 suites that do not include Teams for regions outside the EEA and Switzerland. Instead, a standalone Teams offering for Enterprise customers in those regions will be available
  • Changes to Enterprise Suites: Existing suites such as Office 365 E1, E3, E5, Microsoft 365 E3, and E5 that include Teams will no longer be available to new subscribers worldwide. Existing subscribers can continue using their current plans, renew, upgrade, or add seats as usual. However, new subscribers outside the EEA and Switzerland who want Teams will need to purchase two SKUs: one for Microsoft 365 or Office 365 suite without Teams and another for Microsoft Teams Enterprise
  • Changes to Frontline Suites: Current Frontline suites will continue to be available, with customers having the option to choose between existing suites with Teams included or new versions without Teams
  • Changes to Microsoft 365 Business Suites: Similarly, Microsoft 365 Business suites will coexist with the new lineup, offering customers the choice between existing suites with Teams or new versions without Teams.
  • Pricing: Pricing for the new suites without Teams may vary depending on the suite and region, with the pricelist subject to change.
