Solving Workplace Challenges with HPE Networking
Tim Tijssens began by introducing the topic of solving workplace challenges with HPE networking. He emphasized the importance of modern networking solutions in creating efficient and sustainable work environments. He highlighted how HPE networking can address common workplace issues and improve overall productivity and explained how AI-driven networking solutions can optimize energy consumption, reduce costs, and minimize carbon emissions.
New EU Regulations
Tim also covered the new EU regulations for building energy performance. He outlined the key requirements, including the implementation of Building Automation and Control Systems (BACS) and the monitoring of indoor environmental quality. These regulations aim to make the EU climate neutral by 2050 and mandate zero on-site emissions from fossil fuels in new buildings by 2030. He also mentioned the increase in voluntary schemes and codes for smart buildings, such as WELL, RESET, Fitwel, BREEAM, and the Living Building Challenge. These initiatives focus on occupant comfort and health, emphasizing the importance of people-centric and environmentally-focused standards.
A Modern Network Supports Your Green Initiatives
Tim emphasized Aruba’s commitment to sustainability through its modern network approach. He explained how Aruba aims to lower its Scope 3 emissions by 42% by 2030 and achieve net zero by 2040. The presentation delved into the sustainability attributes of HPE networking solutions in three key areas: how it’s made, how it works, and how it’s used. Tim highlighted the energy efficiency, eco-friendly parts, and reduced lifecycle management of the products. He also discussed the role of IoT in facilities and energy management, leveraging network data for building analysis, and hybrid work solutions to reduce fossil fuel consumption.
HPE Sustainability
Tim introduced the concept of the HPE Sustainability dashboard, which provides insights, analysis, and reporting on carbon reduction, corporate governance, and growth. The dashboard includes various components of infrastructure and workloads, such as applications, storage, servers, network devices, and locations. Tim showcased Aruba’s hardware solutions designed for sustainability practices and highlighted the Aruba Green AP, which supports reducing energy consumption, and the Aruba Switch IPM, which automates PoE+ consumption.
AI Driven Power Saving
Tim discussed the implementation of AI-driven power saving features in Green Lake and explained how Access Points (APs) draw power from PoE switches based on user connectivity and services, impacting energy consumption, cost, and CO2 emissions. He introduced Green Wi-Fi, which uses AI to dynamically adjust AP PoE power based on site conditions and behavior, optimizing energy use and reducing emissions. The presentation concluded with an example outcome of deploying 100 AP 515 devices in deep sleep for 8 hours a day and Tim demonstrated the significant savings achieved, including £285 on electricity and 392 KgsCO2, equivalent to the carbon offset of 18 fully grown trees.
