Overview
The presentation focused on the HPE Morpheus VM Essentials software, its benefits, and its impact on virtualization and cloud management. The key topics covered included licensing changes, cost savings, performance improvements, and the integration of HPE Morpheus VM Essentials with other HPE and third-party solutions.
The VM Revolution
Bart Heungens introduced the concept of the VM revolution and the role of HPE Morpheus VM Essentials software in this transformation. He highlighted the significant changes in licensing and the disruptions caused by these changes for customers. He emphasized the cost issues triggered by Broadcom/VMware’s pricing and bundling, and how HPE VM Essentials offers a more cost-effective solution. The presentation detailed the licensing changes that have caused significant disruption for customers, including the elimination of perpetual licenses and ELAs, lower discounting, and extra charges for software like vSAN and Aria. Bart explained how HPE VM Essentials offers 4x to 25x lower costs compared to other virtualization solutions, with hypervisor licenses based on cores rather than sockets. This results in substantial cost savings for customers.
Performance and Efficiency
Bart discussed the performance and efficiency improvements achieved with HPE VM Essentials. He highlighted the benefits of server refresh, including up to 90% license savings, 26:1 server consolidation, and significant reductions in energy consumption. The presentation emphasized the advantages of upgrading to newer generations of servers, such as Gen10 and Gen12, to achieve higher performance and efficiency.
Simplified Management and Integration
The presentation covered the simplified management and integration capabilities of HPE Morpheus VM Essentials. Bart explained how the software unifies VMware and HPE hypervisors, providing a seamless management experience. The software includes features like external storage support, workload placement, VM high availability, live migration, and data protection. It also simplifies management across VMware and HPE environments, allowing for unified management interfaces and easy VM provisioning. Bart emphasized the future-proofing capabilities of HPE Morpheus VM Essentials, with flexible consumption paths and an upgrade path to HPE Morpheus Enterprise for additional features like hybrid cloud support, Kubernetes, advanced blueprints, workflows, governance, and FinOps. The presentation also highlighted the enterprise-grade support and ecosystem provided by HPE, ensuring robust and reliable virtualization environments.
Backup and Recovery
The presentation included a section on backup and recovery, emphasizing the importance of data integrity and availability. Bart explained the native backup and recovery features of HPE VM Essentials, which utilize KVM snapshots and support both incremental and atomic full backups. The software offers flexible backup storage options and has been validated with multiple partners to ensure comprehensive data protection.
