How distributors empower resellers in Azure Migration
Migration is not just a technical journey, as cloud migration is often framed as a technical process of moving workloads from on-premises data centers to the cloud, but anyone active in the Microsoft channel ecosystem knows this is not the full truth.
Migration is:
- A business transformation
- A risk mitigation exercise
- And increasingly, a revenue engine for partners
For many resellers, especially in the SMB and mid-market space, the challenge isn’t if they should move customers to Azure. It’s how to do it efficiently, profitably, and with confidence.
When looking at cloud migration tools, it’s important to understand the difference between Azure Migrate and DR Migrate. Azure Migrate is Microsoft’s unified migration hub, enabling partners to discover environments, assess readiness, estimate costs, and execute migrations. DR Migrate builds on this by adding AI-driven insights, business case creation, and more advanced migration planning capabilities.
It’s also essential to distinguish migration from disaster recovery. Azure Migrate is designed for planned migration projects, while Azure Site Recovery focuses on disaster recovery scenarios, ensuring business continuity in case of disruptions.
At the same time, Azure Arc plays a key role in enabling hybrid reality. It extends Azure management to on-premises and multi-cloud environments, providing a unified control plane that helps organizations manage resources consistently across different infrastructures.

The real challenge for resellers is that they often lack the resources, a structured methodology, and clear visibility on ROI.
The distributor’s role is to support resellers across four key areas: funding and incentives, co-delivery, enablement and skilling, and simplification and scalability.
The conclusion is that migration doesn’t fail because of technology but because of a lack of clarity, capacity, and confidence, and distributors exist to solve exactly that.
